Jide Salawu is a Nigerian poet and literary scholar. He is the author of Preface for Leaving Homeland published under African Poetry Book Fund. His individual works have been featured in different journals including LitHub, Third Text, The Republic, CBC, Literary Review of Canada, This Magazine, Ex-Puritan, Prairie Schooner, Rattle, Oxford Review of Books, Transition, and so on. His co-edited anthology, African Urban Echoes, will be released in January 2025 by Griots Lounge, Canada. His debut full-length poetry book, Contraband Bodies, will be published by NeWest Press (Canada) in Fall 2025.
His research papers have appeared in Journal of African Cultural Studies, Muziki, and African Identities. His research broadly covers African urban-rural relations, diasporic narratives, book culture, and African reading communities. A Fulbright Scholar (2020), Salawu has won other fellowships and prizes. He is currently rounding off his PhD program at the University of Alberta, where he is researching country migration narratives in postcolonial Nigeria.
He works as the managing editor of OlongoAfrica magazine and graduate teaching assistant at the Department of English and Film Studies, University of Alberta.
